Shoe Collection: Marc Jacobs x Kaws mouse flats

I have not been showing any love when it comes to the extensive shoe collection I have. My apologizes.

I use to collect Marc Jacobs mouse flats. These were the last ones I bought actually, but these are the hardest to get. They only made 200 of these and I have the first of 200. I'm a prize collector of fashion. I usually don't buy things that I won't wear, but these puppies are never going to be worn outside. When I saw these at the Marc Jacobs store in SF on Maiden Lane in 2008, I literally died. They have been making these mouse flats for 10 years. These were made for the 10th anniversary. Also, they choose to do a collaboration with graffiti artist Kaws? Sold. You are forever mine.

Free Access: Beach House @ Webster Hall

I have been following Beach House since their first album and I have seen them like 6 different times all over the country... but this particular time, Victoria's voice just sounded so phenomenal. I don't know what made it so different... was it the venue and sound? Did she have vocal training? Who knows... I ran a bit late for their set so I didn't have good enough range to take a video or photo but someone else did... (for your viewing pleasure.)

Taking a Trip: Dining in Shanghai (Meat Eaters Edition)

You also have to understand that one of the main reasons why I took this trip is because my friend talked me into it, purely because he wanted to try all the food. A lot of great chefs have been going to Shanghai recently.

We didn't take photos of everything.
I loved that in fine dining restaurants, they gave you the option of eating with chopsticks. I think this should be available at all places.

Taking a Trip: Dining in Shanghai (Veggie Edition)

It was excessive guys. Pure gluttony. I was eating nonstop. Imagine eating until you are bursting, and then still eating. It got to the point where I swear it felt like it hurt, but it hurt sooo good.

I did all the fine dining you can do there. I mean I did fine dining all day, sometimes we dined at 2 fine dining restaurants in a night because they would close so late. Then during the day, we were running around, just trying everything. I mean it. One time we went to 3 restaurants before noon. We didn't just order one thing, we would order 8 different things at a restaurant, just so we can try everything. We never could finish everything unless it was THAT GOOD. Also, in Chinese tradition they serve everything family style, so there was always too much food.

This is my version. I am vegetarian (lacto-ovo) but it gets difficult when traveling, especially in countries that are not veg friendly, but we made it happen. Here are some of the dishes I had above.

I actually took videos on this trip, but my poor poor Stella McCartney jacket got stolen along with my HD video camera in the pocket. I swear I have the worst luck. I will be mourning for that jacket for a long long time. It kept me so warm in the snow.
I think it's funny that the only picture I have of myself from this trip is this one. I love salted plum drinks. Oh, the simple things in life. It reminds me of my childhood.

Taking a Trip: Lanterns in Old Town

The Lunar New Year just passed which I celebrate. China celebrates it for the whole month, so it was fun to see all the festivities.

The staff would give us the weather for the next day at 6PM in our room on this notecard specifically made for that. I have never had that luxury (?) before. We thought it was hilarious. Behind the front desk, there was this that would tell you exactly that.

Taking a Trip: Astor House Hotel in Shanghai

This is the hallway to my room. It was such a beautiful and historic building. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into because my friend was the one that booked the hotel. I was confused to find out that this was the way to my room.

Taking a Trip: Helmut Newton Foundation

(Helmut Newton's Office)

It was so much fun for me to go to this exhibit and seeing all his work together in one space. His written faxes were a lot of fun to read.

I was also really moved by the devotion between Helmut Newton and his wife June that were married for over half a century.
For A.B.

When Lauryn Hill was at her absolute peek. She has been playing a ton of shows in NYC and I can't bring myself to go for some reason.

Taking a Trip: Stagger Lee in Berlin

This is the only cocktail bar that I have been to that has this great old western feeling without feeling really themed. I love the bar and the sweet girls behind it.
