I was invited to the Friends and Family opening of the new Bourgeois Pig in Brooklyn.  It was raining so hard that night, but I made sure to take a cab into Carroll Gardens to support my friends.

Taking a Trip: Cheeseboard in Berkeley

Yes, I know... I can't believe myself either.  Don't judge me... but my favorite pizza is made in Berkeley on Shattuck Avenue.  You really can't judge me until you have had it.  They make only one type of pizza a day.  The long line is for people just to buy one kind of cheese pizza.  It's simply amazing.  It's directly across the street from Chez Panisse.  I have had so much pizza from everywhere, but they are just so consistent... every single time.

It's so perfect that they opened a Philz Coffee a few blocks away.

Me and Thanh

I have known Thanh since I was 13.  I was so excited to spend time with him while he was in NYC for this week.  I had to bring him to PDT and Crif Dogs for the essential hotdog and cocktail.  My friend Jim Meehan has been working on a PDT book for a really long time and it finally just released.  I highly recommend the book to anyone.  I didn't really know what to expect from it, but when I got to see it a few months ago, it blew my mind.  Please check it out, it would be a great gift for the holidays.

What to Wear Daily: Atelier Cologne Oolang Infini and Orange Sanguine

I had the best experience at Atelier Cologne that is on Elizabeth Street.  They have such a knowledgeable staff. Arlene and I randomly found this place walking through the streets.  When I saw what they were called, I knew it was something that Arlene had to experience while she was here.  We left with so many great fragrances here.  The two that I chose work so well layered together or alone.  I could even mix it with my Serge Lutens un bois Vanille and they smell so great together.  I never really thought about layering fragrances until this year.  It takes fragrances to a different level.

They have such great small personal touches to their products, like the small funnel that will allow you to put your fragrance in a small travel size bottle.  They also have these leather caps that they will personalize for you.  I do have a leather sleeve that I will be picking up soon with my name on it.  It's settle little things that matter so much to me.  Definitely check out this place if you are in NYC.

CMJ has been going on... so there are great shows happening all over the city. I was really looking forward to Small Black live. Too bad the stage was so dark... but this was the best I could do with a video.

Free Access: Portishead at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC

Amazing show...

A lot of people having been complaining about people talking during concerts in New York, especially when the headlining bands are playing.  In the recent shows that  have been attending in the last 2 weeks, I could understand.  At the Roseland, I wasn't even able to hear Four Tet, which opened for Radiohead.  It was a shame.

While I was watching Portishead, there was this couple next to me that was ruining every ones time because we could hear their whole conversation.  I was hoping it was going to end after one song.  People have to understand that there is an etiquette when you go to shows.  Talk loud enough that the person that is with you (which is usually next to you) can hear you.  Talk in their ear, don't have it where a 5 foot radius can hear you.  There is no nice way to tell this couple to lower their voices.  I simply said, "I apologize, I'm sure that your conversation is important, but I can't even hear what I came to this concert for.  You are ruining every one's time by talking and we don't want to have to hear your conversation instead of Portishead."

They immediately got quiet.  You have to speak up when these things happen because no one else is going to do it.  Portishead hasn't played in NYC with a headlining tour in 13 years... I wasn't going to let anyone prevent me from enjoying this.  I don't understand why people go through all these hoops to get into a sold out show and not allow themselves to really take in the experience.  I don't go see live music just to be seen there.  Does that make sense?  Anyways... just a little rant about things.

(Custom made pumpkin sweet bun cake from Jane's Sweet Buns for Yorka's Bday.)

Jane was so awesome to make this for me.  This was her first pastry with pumpkin for the season, so you have to go there often to check out what she is baking up.

It was harder to get into this concert than an American trying to get into Cuba.  I did take videos but there are so many better ones on Youtube here and here.

Brought my parents to Times Square the first night they were here. (((:

I'm doing some cheesy touristy things with them that I would never ever do. I'm having fun spending time with them. It's the first time they have ever been to the east coast.

Shoe Collection: YSL Fall 2004

I'm gonna bring it back real old school and take out Tom Ford YSL Era shoes. This was his last collection for Yves Saint Laurent and a memorable one. He was inspired by the Chinese Collection of 1977 that collided with the launch of their fragrance Opium. I originally wanted these in the wedges but it became too difficult to find them in my small size. I can't believe how much time has passed by. This ivory pair was in look 8. I really loved this particular collection.

Shoe Collection: Fendi Spring 2001

Since everyone is reminiscing about 9/11 today, I figure I show you a pair of shoes from the Fendi collection in 2001. Maggie Rizer actually opened the show with these shoes in the first look. I can't believe how I remember these things. Look how dated the square toe is... The first photo was taken by me today and the second is taken by Vy 2 years ago, the day before I moved to NYC.

Anyways... there was a lot of emotion all over the city today. I just feel like that just happened yesterday. I was a senior in high school and I remember going to my first period Economy class watching this happen on the news.

I was invited by Pras for a private showcase at Smash Studios that included about 25 people. Pretty amazing. It's this new experiment he is doing that he is tentatively calling "The Instrument." Sorry it's so dark, the lighting in the studio was really low.

Jane's Sweet Buns

My lovely friend Jane opened up the cutest shop on St. Marks. She makes these delicious adult sweet treats that are based on her favorite cocktails. I love her idea of having guest bakers that are current bartenders (mixologists... whatever you wanna call them). The first guest will pop up with an amazing pastry on August 19th, so keep your eyes out for an awesome John deBary creation.

What to Wear Daily: Serge Lutens Un bois vanille

This is apart of their Beige Collection. Last time I was in SF, I went browsing through the Barney's. It's a lot smaller than the one in NYC so it's a lot less overwhelming, which is always nice. When I shop I always have something in mind but this time when I went in there I just decided to look for a new fragrance because I have been going through this new phase in my life. I haven't used many fragrances in my life and I'm really loyal, so it was kind of difficult for me. This sounds like a small change but something like fragrance is so simple but so drastic. So, when I went downstairs to their fragrance department and asked them for something vanilla, they gave me two options. This was the first and when I smelled this one, right away I knew I was in love. Serge Lutens is only available at Barney's.

August 10, 2011

I had the pleasure of meeting Ron Cooper, artist and founder of Del Maguey, Single Village Mezcal, a few months back. He is quite possibly one of the most fascinating people I have met in a long while. He has lived (and is living) such a fruitful life. If you want to try the best mezcal, I suggest you try it out. I think it's something that you have to build a palette for, but when you get there it's amazing.

Shoe Collection: Lanvin Quilted High Tops

I got these a while ago... I love Lanvin sneakers. I feel like womens sneakers are more plain than mens. It took me a really long time to talk myself into buying a pair because they are so expensive but when I decided to, I told myself that I really needed some retail therapy and these sneakers were the perfect thing to purchase.
